Cabaret & Piano

Ian MacGregor is a freelance pianist and accompanist, playing in concerts, cabaret shows, auditions and rehearsals.

He is the resident musical director and pianist for a series of cabaret shows Sunday Afternoon at the Musicals with the casts of Phantom of the Opera, Wicked and Les Miserables at the London jazz venue at Pizza Express Live (Holborn), and also Pizza Express Live (Birmingham) and Pizza Express Live (Maidstone).  We are now in our 8th year of these musical theatre cabarets with over 65 shows.

In 2017 he founded The Ella McCready Trio with singer Ella McCready, Ivan McCready on cello and Ian MacGregor on piano. The trio has a varied repertoire which highlights the decades of musical experience they bring together, including contemporary covers, traditional jazz standards, rock, folk songs, and classical music – from Pachelbel's Canon to the latest tracks from the likes of Sam Smith and Adele. I do all of the cello arrangements for the trio and we can take requests for new ones. The trio also tailors special educational performances for schools, combining their music with lively and engaging presentations. The Ella McCready Trio has performed at the Hostry Festival in Norwich, Titchwell Manor and The Belfry Centre for Music & Arts in Cromer as part of an extended tour of dates in East Anglia. Our London debut at The Pheasantry was sold out.

He was the musical director for the Sunday Night Singers, a company of professional singers whose aim is to perform new musical theatre work from emerging Broadway composers. Previous venues include the Theatre Royal Stratford East, Landor Theatre, Canal Café Theatre, Union Theatre, Upstairs at the Gatehouse, Jermyn Street Theatre, Leicester Square Theatre, Battersea Barge.

Artists include Tameka Empson, Sharon D. Clarke, Luke McCall, Melanie Bright, Maria Coyne, Oliver Saville, Sam Lupton, Liam Tamne, Adrian Hansel, Natalie Hope, Emma Hatton.
